In June 1979, KwieKulik filmed crowds gathered in Warsaw to wait for Pope John Paul II’s parade and mass. The film showed St. Ann’s church, the cross in Victory Square, a temporary platform, the Unknown Soldier’s Tomb, Hotel Europejski, Hotel Bristol, the Palace of Culture and Science, and Sigmund’s Column. In the evening, from the television screen, they filmed the Pope’s meeting with Edward Gierek, the First Secretary of the ruling Polish United Workers’ Party, at the Belweder Palace. The project is part of the Documentations series.
